Scalping of flavours in packaged dog food

Flavour scalping is a term used in the packaging industry to describe loss of quality of a packaged item due to either its its volatile flavours being absorbed by the package or the food absorbing undesirable flavours from the packaging material.

Dog food manufacturers have to consider the materials used for packaging in order to maintain freshness, great taste and shelf life. It is important for these manufacturers to ensure their product is enticing, desirable and flavourful to the pet dogs. Careful testing is undertaken to maintain quality of the product and safety of the contents.

Our FlavourSpec system is able to aid in this process. It can detect those volatile compounds that affect the product and make comparable measurements with a standard showing any differences in the flavour profiles.
